Chrysanthemum paludosum, known by many confusing botanical names, is a modest and easily-grown species, which has been very useful in my garden as ground cover and edging. It can be sown directly outdoors when the soil is warm, but I normally sow it in the cool greenhouse in early May and grow it on in individual pots. It starts flowering very young, sometimes when less than 10 cm high, and can be easily transplanted anytime. A few spare pots held in reserve will help to cover bare patches during the summer. The growth is bushy and compact, the fine green foliage being virtually covered with pure white, small daisies until well after autumn frosts. It looks very good under shrubs too. The soil should be kept moist through dry periods.
