Viola Cornuta
The Pansy or Pansy Violet is a cultivated gardenflower. It is derived from the wildflower called the Heartsease or Johnny Jump Up (Viola tricolor), and is sometimes given the subspecies name Viola tricolor hortensis. However, many garden varieties are hybrids and are referred to as Viola × wittrockiana.
Viola cornuta is hardy to zone 5. It is in leaf all year, in flower from July to August. The flowers are hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Insects.
Johnny Jump-up prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid and neutral soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It requires moist soil.
