The strawflower is a flowering plant of the genus Helichrysum in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The type species is Helichrysum orientale. There are an estimated 600 species.

Helichrysum 'Silver' : synonym: Helichrysum petiolare, Helichrysum minus, Helichrysum petiolare minus and Plecostachys serpyllifolia.

Small, soft, furry foliage with a newly minted gleam makes this Helichrysum a most appealing companion for sun-loving annuals such as Petunias and Pelargoniums, and a superb foliage accent for containers. Deer resistant and drought tolerant too, 'Silver Mist' has all the hallmarks of true sterling. Plants are bushy and branch without pinching.
